Motorola Razr Maxx officially arrives, Razr V coming in Q3 2012

Motorola Mobility has announced the Motorola RAZR MAXX, along with the Motorola RAZR V for Indian shores. The Motorola RAZR MAXX will be available with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), and will receive an over-the-air upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) soon after. In India, Motorola RAZR MAXX will be available in select cities at select retail stores, starting June 21 for a recommended retail price of Rs. 31,590. The Motorola RAZR V will be available with Android 4.0, during the third quarter of the year. Specific availability information will be announced closer to the retail launch dates.

Razr Maxx
Both smartphones sport the RAZR design, with the same sculpted face and diamond-cut aluminium accents. Not only do they look gorgeous, they’re also made to last with KEVLAR fibre for strength and scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. So no worries if you’re caught in the rain or have spilled your coffee. The Motorola RAZR MAXX and Motorola RAZR V have a splash-guard coating that keeps everything safe – including the electrical boards inside.

The Razr Maxx comes with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and a ppi of 256. The Razr Maxx is powered by a Dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and comes with 16GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM. The device comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich onboard and has an 8 megapixel rear camera, capable of recording at 1080p at 30 fps. It also has a 1.3 megapixel front camera. What’s unique about the Razr Maxx (like the Droid Razr) is its Kevlar body.

The rest of the specifications of the phone include:

  • 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 540 x 960 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS and Wi-Fi capabilities for net access
  • GPS with A-GPS support for Google Maps
  • Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0 (Micro)
  • 8MP camera with LED flash and secondary camera up front
  • FM radio with RDS
  • 16GB internal memory

The main difference between the Razr Maxx and the Razr is the different exterior casing and an extended battery. The Razr Maxx comes with a 3300 mAh battery, as opposed to a 1780 mAh battery on the earlier model. We had reviewed the earlier variant, the Motorola Razr XT910 (or the original Droid Razr) and here’s what we thought about the design,  “A few diamond-cut aluminium accents add to the overall elegance of the design and thanks to its KEVLAR fiber (not it’s not bullet proof) and splash-guard coating that extends to the boards on the inside of the handset, it’s also quite a durable device.”

Razr V
The V comes with a Dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, while maintaining a cool 8.35mm thinness. The phone comes with Motorola’s ColorBoost display technology and the company is planning to launch it at an affordable price. The rest of the specs of the Razr V haven’t been mentioned officially yet, but the device is said to have a 4.3-inch screen with 960 x 540 pixels resolution, an 8MP camera and 1GB of RAM and of course Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Unique to Motorola Mobility smartphones, including Motorola RAZR MAXX and Motorola RAZR V is Smart Actions – a tool that lets you automate your phone’s settings throughout the day. For example, you can set your phone to automatically turn off its ringer when you get home from work and set it to turn off e-mail while you sleep, or dim the screen when battery life gets below 30 percent. Essentially, Smart Actions manages all the little things that add up to make all the difference in the world – all the while extending your phone’s already long battery life.

Motorola RAZR MAXX will be available starting June 21 in select cities at selected retail stores across India for a recommended retail price of Rs. 31,590. The Motorola RAZR V will be made available in Q3 of 2012.
