Spice has launched the Stellar Craze, a budget Android smartphone in the Indian market for Rs. 6,599.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 coming soon

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 will beavailable globally this month, Samsung announced on Monday. Initially, the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be available in Wi-Fi-only or Wi-Fi plus 3G HSPA+ options, but Samsung promised to bring a Wi-Fi plus LTE version to market later this year.

The company did not specify an exact release date or how much it will cost. The Galaxy Note 10.1 is essentially a cross between Samsung's 10-inch tablet and its stylus-packing "phablet," the Galaxy Note.

It also boasts Smart Stay, a feature that tracks the owner's eyes to ensure the screen stays on while it's being looked at, and Pop Up Play, which allows video to be viewed anywhere on the screen while running other tasks.

Kinect for Windows sensor now in India for Rs. 19,990

Microsoft Corporation has announced the availability of Kinect for Windows sensor and Software Development Kit (SDK) in India. Kinect for Windows is based on Microsoft’s Natural User Interface and the launch brings Indian developers an opportunity to explore and tinker with the new technology. The Kinect for Windows sensor is available at Rs. 19,990. Consumers can place an order with a reseller or call the sales office for their zone. The SDK can be downloaded for free from here.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 gets ICS

Samsung has officially begun sending out the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update to Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablets. As per Android Authority, the update isn’t going to be over-the-air (OTA). Hence users will have to download Samsung’s Kies PC software, connect the tablet to a Windows-running desktop or laptop and look for the Android 4.0 install package. That being said, reports suggest that not all Galaxy Tab 7.7 models will be upgradeable to ICS currently. Only users in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, and the UK having a GT-P6800 tablet will be able to flash the new software package at this time. 

Samsung Galaxy 7.7 tablets are powered by a 1.4GHz dual core processor and run on Android 3.2 Honeycomb platform. The tablet, as obvious from its name, sports a 7.7-inch display and features a metal design, weighing 340 gm. The tablet sports a 3MP auto-focus back camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera.

Windows 8 retail packaging revealed

Microsoft has finally revealed the official retail packaging of its latest operating system, Windows 8. The new logo design, unlike the wavy flag-styled older logo of Windows, is funkier and highly stylized. Microsoft plans to sell Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro editions boxed in packages of two color variants. Windows 8 will come packaged in a lighter color with the Windows 8-style UI logo very prominent at the front, while the Windows 8 Pro edition will come clad in a darker variant. This exclusive information was first broken online by The Verge after an official talk with spokespersons from Microsoft.

Microsoft introduces dedicated Office Store

Microsoft has been on a roll as the year kicked off with a lot happening on the Windows 8 front. The software maker has now announced the launch of a dedicated store for Microsoft Office 2013, as disclosed in its official blog. The Office Store will work just as the Windows Store for the upcoming Metro-based operating system and allow app developers to create and distribute apps designed particularly for Office 2013. The Office 2013 Preview was recently made available for download.

With this move, Microsoft aims at making it simpler to get, install and use apps. On choosing “Apps for Office” from the Insert Tab, users can view all apps from Office Store. Here users can learn more about apps in the store, read reviews, acquire or buy apps, and also start using them right away. The apps listed on the Store get extensively validated so that users can trust them. Since these apps are all based on web-standards, they load straightaway. There is no need to pre-load them. On using a new machine, the user has to simply sign-in with their Microsoft account and all apps will be loaded.

The blog further discloses that developers can submit apps, reach a huge audience, make money and continually enhance the app. Developers can upload apps through the Seller Dashboard. Here they can create a great looking public developer profile, upload apps, create app detail pages, set a price for the app and decide how to get paid. These apps published to the Office Store will pass through extensive checks to filter out malicious and inappropriate content. It also talks about managing apps. The lifecycle for an app is easily managed from the Seller Dashboard and developers can rollout upgrades and existing users will get notified through an in-app notification. The upgrade process touts to be seamless for users, no downloading a new installable and the cloud app model is designed for ease of upgrades.

Kinect for Windows sensor and SDK now available in India

Microsoft Corporation India has announced the availability of Kinect for Windows sensor and Software Development Kit (SDK) in India.

Surprisingly enough, the Kinect for Windows sensor has been priced at Rs. 19,990 – rather exorbitant when you consider the Kinect for Xbox sensor comes for Rs. 9,990, and the Xbox 360 4GB Kinect Bundle comes for Rs. 24,990.

Of course, Microsoft’s target audience is not the home user, or the gamer. In fact, there is no mass market Kinect-compatible content available for the PC. Kinect for Windows for now is meant just for developers and businesses looking to experiment with possible applications, which so far have been innovatively utilized by varied professionals, from artists to educators.
