Facebook Chief Technology Officer Bret Taylor Leaves for Start-Up Life

Facebook’s chief technology officer Bret Taylor has reportedly left the firm for another start-up. The report comes from AllThingsD, which did not name Taylor’s new firm.

“I had always been upfront with Mark that I eventually wanted to do another start-up,” Taylor told
AllThingsD. “And we felt now is the best time after the IPO and the launch of some recent things for me to do that.” Taylor said that Facebook is dealing with “the cultural change of increasing attention” following the company’s decision to go public.

Taylor worked on Facebook’s mobile and platform initiatives. The social network has struggled to explain how it will monetize its mobile application in the future and Taylor no doubt had a plan in those future endeavors and, possibly, even with the highly rumored Facebook Phone. Facebook exec Mike Vernal will take over Facebook’s platform and Cory Ondreijka will oversee mobile.
