After a very quick turnaround that saw invitations go out just this past Friday, Microsoft held an event at Milk Studios in Hollywood, CA today to announce that the new Microsoft Surface is a tablet.
The new surface tablet is more like a full PC than most in that it will feature a 10.6-inch screen, full USB 2.0 support, HDMI, dual Wi-Fi antennas, a built-in stand that is completely hidden, a scratch resistent backing, Gorilla Glass 2.0 and a widerscreen view that provides 30% more viewing area. All of this will be powered by a Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor running on top of Windows 8 Pro.
Also announced was a cover that will function as both a multitouch keyboard and full trackpad. The name will be “Touch Cover,” but what else could you really call it?
There will be a second model running Windows RT that will be on the lower end of the spectrum.
