RIM settles deal with Paratek Microwave Inc.

 Canadian handset manufacturing brand, Research in Motion (RIM) have cemented a deal with Nashua, New Hampshire-based, Paratek Microwave Inc., a company known for their adaptive radio-frequency technology. Although the financial details of the deal weren't disclosed, RIM is set to benefit from Paratek's adaptive RF technology, since it would help the Canadian manufacturer in improving their mobile-handset call quality and battery life, both of which are key. Paratek are funded by venture capital investors, including Polaris Ventures,  Morgenthaler Ventures; Novak, Biddle; Investor AB; and ABS Ventures and Europe's biggest chip maker, STMicroelectronics, among others. 

Formed in 1998, Paratek Microwave Inc. has been involved in both, designing and manufacturing adaptive RF front-end component solutions, which are used in mobile wireless applications. In an official post on Paratek's website, the company's President and CEO, Ralph Pini stated, "We are pleased to announce that RIM has acquired Paratek Microwave Inc.As a part of RIM, a technology leader and pioneer in the smartphone category, Paratek will continue to innovate and to bring leading edge adaptive tuning solutions to the industry. We are very excited about this transaction and the opportunity to serve RIM and realize our vision. As always, we will continue to pursue the development of state-of-the-art adaptive tuning technologies. We look forward to working with our new colleagues and integrating our solutions into RIM’s BlackBerry product offerings."
