Apple planning gaming controller for iOS devices

Apple is mulling on having a new device in the market – a physical gaming controller.

According to AnandTech’s Lal Shimpi, an internal project like this is definitely in the works. He went on to say that, “Although many casual Android/iOS games do just fine with touch, some are certainly better suited for some sort of a controller. While controller support in Android is in its infancy at best, it’s more than iOS currently offers. I know of an internal Apple project to bring a physical controller to market, but whether or not it will ever see the light of day remains to be seen. As smartphones and tablets come close to equalling the performance of current game consoles, I feel like the controller problem must be addressed.”

At present, Android allows for physical controller connectivity, so that’s one plus point already over Apple. Also, if you will flip back a few pages, Apple has already patented (well, yes another patent) the design for a physical gaming controller that has support for camera, A D – pad and a few control buttons as well as physical buttons, as reported by 9 to 5 Mac. We’re not too sure about how legitimate the image and the design could be, considering how Apple likes to ‘un’ complicate things, and this brings complication to a whole new level. But, if they do manage to pull it off, obviously it’s going to be another chapter in the world of tablets as they surge closer towards being serious gaming devices.
