Pottermore, the online hub to help those Harry Potter fans who end when the books (and/or the movies) do, has finally become public. Pottermore was first teased as a secret J.K. Rowling project back in June and in July, more details were revealed via tweets. The hub was said to have the Harry Potter books in digital format and the books would be DRM free so you could view them on any device after one purchase. It was also revealed that you can explore the chapter and go to different parts of the chapter (so you could either read on the Hogwarts Express or read about the journey to Hogwarts). Of course, Pottermore was promised to have never been read before content.
Now that the site is open to the public, those who simply could not handle the end of the Harry Potter series will find, so far, 18,000 new words in new content by J.K. Rowling on the site. The content deals with the context behind various Harry Potter elements including a history of the Hogwarts Express. Furthermore, Pottermore, being a web-based product offers Harry Potter fans interactivity like a forum where users can discuss the books as well as the new content on Pottermore itself. There are also social games that users can play like Harry Potter quizzes where users compete against each other. Finally, as expected, the site allows users to purchase the DRM free Harry Potter ebooks. Note, Harry Potter ebooks have been available via Google ebooks since the fall of last year and they too were DRM free.
