Future Nokia Lumia, PureView smartphones to be waterproof

Nokia has introduced new nano-technology capabilities which it plans to incorporate in future Lumia and PureView smartphones. The Finnish company showcased a new “Suprehydrophobic” technology at the launch event of the Lumia 610 in London last week.

According to Nokia's VP of NW Europe, Conor Pierce, the new technology is one of many technologies the company aims to add to next range of devices.

“What happens when a drop of water lands on a lotus leaf… has baffled scientists for generations… but our team in Cambridge UK found a solution,” he said.

“Nano technology lets us do it. Superhydrophobic technology makes water bounce, it stops it, rolls it off the device and leaves it water impregnant, that’s the magic, that’s what we’re going to bring to the party,” he added.

The Nokia official, however, did not disclose any information related to the availability of the smartphones with the new technology. However, he did confirmed that the future Lumia and PureView versions of smartphones.

Meanwhile, YouTube video by GSMArena shows how the technology works. It's learnt that Nokia at its Nokia World 2011 event last year had showcased water droplets bouncing off the display with hydrophobic coating. Check out the video below:
