Microsoft is currently planning to release the company’s full Office suite for not only Apple’s iPad, but for Android tablets as well. The company is targeting November of this year for both launches. Additionally, our source has seen Microsoft Office running on an iPad first-hand. It is also plausible that Microsoft Office will be coming to the iPhone and iPod touch rather than only the iPad, as we’re told the loading screen in the app clearly said “Office for iOS” and not just iPad.
Office for iOS and Android are likely to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel. There are also likely to be the cloud services that Microsoft ties in with Office. Back in November, we reported that while Microsoft was working on Windows 8 to be ready in the next two years, the company was also likely to launch an Office for iPad sometime in 2012.
If you still want to use Microsoft Office on you iPad, an app, CloudOn can be used to bring the interface of a Microsoft Office product like Word to your iPad via the cloud. Because the app brings you the software through the cloud, you will need an active Internet connection for it to work. With CloudOn, you can use Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint to create or edit documents on your iPad. You can rename, delete and manage documents with your Dropbox account and use a lot of the functions that you would use with Office on your computer like Tracking Changes in Word and inserting tables in Excel. The app is available for free from the iOS App Store.
